Simple DIY shoe rack

For this Shoe rack build a key feature I was looking for was portability thus the folding design is a great solution for this, the shelves are not permanently attached and as such making it very easy to compact and move the piece.

As regards the types of shoes that I would be storing here it would mostly be house sandals and kids shoes. You could adjust the dimensions and number of shelves to suit your specific needs.

For this build you will need the following Supplies feel free to modify the plans to suit your needs/space.

Supply List:

  • 4.5 cm x 4.5 cm - 1000 cm common lumber boards

  • 1.5” pocket screws

  • Wood paint (optional)

  • Clamps

  • Wood glue

Cut List:

  • (2) 4cm x 2.5cm, 100 cm Legs

  • (2) 4cm x 2.5cm, 110 cm Legs

  • (10) 2.5cm x 2.5cm, 50cm cm shelf brace

  • (23) 4cm x 1cm, 50 cm Planks

  • (2) 2.5cm x 2.5cm, 18 cm shelf bottom

  • (2) 2.5cm x 2.5cm, 26 cm shelf bottom

  • (2) 2.5cm x 2.5cm, 34 cm shelf bottom

  • (2) 2.5cm x 2.5cm, 42cm shelf bottom

Step 1 : Assemble the bottom shelf

  • The width of the shelves reduces as you go up from the bottom shelve. The other dimensions remain the same for the slats.

  • Start with bottom shelve which has the most slats to attach. I’ll be suing nails to attach the slat to the brace

Step 2 : Assemble Remaining Shelves

  • Assemble the rest of the shelves adjusting the spacing between the slats as needed to ensure an even result (start with the smallest shelf - the slat spacing here will guide the spacing for the next two.)

Step 3 : Assemble the legs 1

  • Begin with the straight leg, attaching the shelf braces at intervals corresponding to the type of items you plan to store here.

Step 4 : Assemble the legs 2

  • Align the shelf braces on the two pairs of legs to ensure a level shelf

  • Drill a 1.5 cm hole through the legs at an angle of 20.5 deg for the bolt for putting together the piece.

  • Give the assembled piece a final round of sanding and a finish of your choice. I will be using paint though this is also optional.

An optional step is to round over the edges to give the piece a more professional look.

Final Step : Enjoy
