Simple DIY Bench Shoe Rack

Bench Shoe Rack render

I am a big fan of builds that give me a multifunctional result...the proverbial killing two birds with one stone. A Bench Shoe Rack makes alot of sense in that not only does it serve as shoe storage, the bench is practical as with where I intend this build to go (my entryway) I can quickly grab my favourite footwear for inside or outside (I wonder if it’s a Kenyan thing that we don’t get into the house with outside shoes?)

For this build you will need the following Supplies feel free to modify the plans to suit your needs/space.

Supply List:

  • 0.75” x 3.75” - 20’ actual common lumber boards

  • 1.75“ x 1.75” - 18’ lumber boards

  • 1 1/2” screws

  • Wood paint (optional)

  • Clamps (optional)

Cut List:

  • (2) 60 cm Legs

  • (6) 30 cm Brace

  • (9) 30 cm Planks - Bench - (30cm by 9cm)

  • (6) 95 cm Slats - Shoe Shelves -(95cm by 4.5cm)

  • (2) 95 cm Bench Support

Step 1 : Assemble the legs

  • Assemble the legs by attaching the shelve supports using the 1 1/2’ screws

  • Start with the shelf support at base of the legs then the second one at 24cm (this was the height that could accomodate my faourite shoes - you can adjust it according to your storage needs)

  • Repeat and create the other pair of legs the same way.

Step 2 : Attach the Shoe Shelves

  • Attach the shoe shelves using 1.5” screws (clamps would really come in handy in this process) startingwith the bottom members.

  • You can use a spacer to ensure even spacing between the slats.

Step 3 : Attach the Bench Bottom Support

•Use 1.5” screws to attach the bottom bench support (you can choose to counter sink or use dowels to hide the screws but since they will be on the bottom it’ not very necessary).

Step 4 : Add the Bench Slats

  • Starting from the ends use counter sunk 1.5” screws to attach the slats to the bench support.

  • You can use spacer to position the slats on the support - I wanted an even gap between the slats though you could choose to have them flush against each other.

Final Step : Enjoy
